JOSEPHINE FUTROS

August 27, 1930 - April 18, 2026

Peacefully on April 18, 2026, Josephine “Josie” Futros of Dugald, Manitoba passed away at the age of 95.

She will be lovingly remembered by her granddaughter, Bonnie (Jason) DeJaeger, who cared for her in the final years of her life and of whom she spoke fondly of to everyone she met.

Josie was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Justina Zubek; her brother Victor Zubek; her husband, Peter Futros (2000); and her daughter, Patricia Futros (2012).

Josie was born in Timmins, Ontario, where she completed her schooling and worked as a stenographer, secretary, and telegraph operator. She met her husband, Peter, at a dance in Toronto, and moved to Manitoba with him after getting married in 1952. Together, they farmed their land and operated their plumbing business, Farm-Rite Plumbing and Heating until Peter’s retirement in 1980. During their marriage, they raised three children and later became proud grandparents to five grandchildren. Following Peter’s passing, Josephine and Patricia continued to live together until Patricia’s passing in 2012.

Josie had a love for sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking for her family, reading and completing crossword puzzles. In 2023, she moved to Kin Place Personal Care Home, where she enjoyed participating in numerous recreational activities such as church services and bingo, and especially cherished visiting with fellow residents and staff.

Bonnie would like to extend sincere thanks to the compassionate and caring staff at Kin Place, Josie’s family physician, Dr. Wiebe, and former home care nurse, Heesook, for the care and support they provided.

Josephine will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Peter, at Green Acres Cemetery during a private graveside service.
